When Alex and David were planning out what their dream wedding day would look like, their caterer, Fork n Knife, said to them, “You’re creating a Wed-stival!” Though they hadn’t thought about it at the time, it made sense. They were after a fun day, out in the open with Food Truck-style catering. So basically, a wedding festival (sounds awesome, right?)
With a Wed-stival, you can expect a big party (sometimes spanning across a couple of days) with great music (played loudly, of course) and a couple who want to celebrate big with their friends and family. And, that’s exactly what Alex and David did.
Alex and David’s wedding at The Ridge Estate in Peat’s Ridge, located on the Central Coast, really had it all. From the jumping castle to the food truck, a Vintage caravan bar serving up ice-cold tipples, lawn games and so much more. Not to mention, they’d hired a killer vendor lineup to bring the day to life.
Their Wedstival Choices
It was such a pleasure to be part of this day – while being totally fun, it was also super relaxed and chilled, just like the couple themselves. Both Alex and David confessed they weren’t the biggest “photo people” and didn’t feel entirely comfortable in front of the camera. It was my job on the day to capture raw, authentic shots and the intimate moments in between, as I knew when they were totally immersed in each other and the day – I’d get my best shots.
The pavilion at The Ridge Estate is the ultimate spot for an outdoor ceremony. The open, exposed timber beams decorated with fairy lights create a romantic and rustic feel (this area looks especially good at night, and we sneaked away from the party to get some shots here).
A Wedstival allows you to lose the traditions that you don’t connect with and put your love front and centre. As someone who’s been to their fair share of weddings as a photographer and as a guest, you’ll never hear complaints from your guests if you provide a bunch of fun activities for them to get involved in, and Alex and David’s jumping castle was not only a heap of fun for both the big and little kids, but also made for some pretty cool shots!
Alex and David opted for one of my favourite Vintage Caravan Bars, Peaches, to serve up their favourite drinks that kept the party going all night long. David and the boys kept hold of the traditional homemade Croatian spirit though, called Rakija, in a custom wooden flask that kept doing the rounds. I’m pretty sure it was strong stuff given the reactions!
I was absolutely buzzing after this day and can’t thank Alex and David enough for inviting me into their world. Their day was a true reminder that whatever your vibe is, it’s your wedding day, to do your way!
