Underatreehouse Photography was started out of the love of packing a bag, hitting the road, meeting new people, and documenting their special moments. When Brook and Jami-Lee contacted me about their Wedding at Boxgrove in Bathurst, I was pumped for this reason!

Finding the Best Wedding Photographer for your Wedding
Jami-Lee told me she had been trawling the internet trying to find the right Photographer for their wedding, and it didn’t matter where they were coming from. She viewed many websites, but my relaxed, genuine and natural wedding photography style stood out, and she kept returning to it. When that happens, you know you’ve found ‘the one’!
It’s always nice when couples contact me because they’ve connected with my work. Brook and Jami-Lee told me how they had already been together for 10 years, engaged for 6 of them and had two daughters together. It was very clear that family is everything to them. As a father myself, I could fully understand this.

Relaxed Family Photos
With family being their number one priority, it was important to them that they could fully enjoy their wedding day without worrying about posed or staged photos or putting on a front for the camera.
It’s pretty common for couples not to want staged or overly posed photos, and I think this style of wedding photography is a thing of the past. It doesn’t represent who you are as a couple and what makes your relationship unique.
On your wedding day, you can expect me to make you feel entirely comfortable. It’s in my nature to be relaxed and easy-going. When you feel comfortable, that’s when the photos don’t feel forced.
One of the biggest compliments I receive is that I am like an old friend rather than a photographer on the day. You focus on it being your life’s most important and special day. I will focus on chasing the light, unobtrusively capturing intimate moments and keeping the overall vibes calm and relaxed.

Bathurst Wedding Venue
Brook and Jami-Lee chose Box Grove in Bathurst for their wedding venue – a beautiful barn set on a family acreage and rolled fields in the Central West of NSW. This was my first time travelling to Bathurst; saying I loved it was an understatement. Bathurst is well-known for hosting the Bathurst 1000 every year, a high-performance endurance race around its hilly race track – so you bet I had to drive the circuit myself at Mount Panorama while I was there.
While I usually photograph weddings around the Central Coast and Newcastle, never let distance stop you from reaching out. I travel far and wide for destination weddings, even overseas. In fact, I feel like this is when I do my best work. Combining my two loves – photography and travel- is one of my favourite parts of the job!

Brook & Jami-Lee’s Box Grove Wedding Story
Brook and Jami-Lee married in November – which is meant to be a warmer month in Bathurst. However, we were greeted with an unexpected cold snap, and it was absolutely freezing! Their entire family, including their daughters, did so well and braved the cold, all in the name of love.
Both of their daughters were the stars of the show, and they had ear-to-ear smiles as they greeted guests and threw rose petals before their mum arrived at the ceremony.
It’s always special to have your kids involved in your wedding day. The girls brought their Mum and Dad their rings and sneaked a couple of hugs and kisses while signing the wedding papers. These are the moments Brook and Jami-Lee will look back on for years to come, reliving the emotions again and again.

We split the portraits into two sections – the first was with their daughters and family, as I knew how important these family-style photos would be to them. I then whisked them off, alone, for some sunset portraits. I love giving couples this opportunity for an intimate and quiet moment together and to reflect on the day before returning to the festivities. These shots were by far some of my favourite from the day!
Once we returned to the reception, the party was in full swing. Then disaster struck! One of their daughters tripped and smashed her front teeth – resulting in them needing to call an ambulance! Brook and Jami-Lee rushed to the hospital with her, and the three of them left the party for about an hour. Thankfully, she was completely fine and recovered within that hour. I kept people entertained and documented the moments for them while they were away, and a short while later, they were able to return to the party. These are the sort of things that, at the time, you can’t believe are happening, but things you look back on that made your day, yours.

I always hope that I get to cross paths with my couples in the future after being part of such an intimate and important part of their lives. Brook and Jami-Lee, I hope we cross paths again soon!
