I was super honoured to be asked to travel to Albury Wodonga, on the NSW/Victoria border for the Wedding of Damien and Meyah.
As it would turn out, the date of their wedding would be the very weekend that all the Covid related restrictions hit! As I was with them all weekend, we were glued to the news multiple times a day in the build-up trying to work out what they could and couldn’t do and how many people they were going to be allowed to have at their big day. Needless to say, it was a rollercoaster of emotions, as numbers were progressively being cut day after day as the restrictions tightened.
In one respect, I think the restrictions turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the Reception, which was supposed to be held inside the hall at Splitters Creek was reimagined to be an outdoor celebration with two long tables of guests enjoying an evening under the stars!!
The Day of the Wedding
The day started with getting the hall and the tables ready on the lawn and preparing the traditional Spanish Paella that would be the feast for the evening, thanks to Damien’s Spanish heritage.
After getting ready at home, Meyah was transported to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Wodonga in her Grandfather’s classic Ford Mustang for the traditional ceremony, after which we explored the two cities, stopping in Wodonga at the old train station, which has been wonderfully redeveloped into ‘Junction Place’, making for some cool urban backdrops, before heading to the Botanic Gardens in Albury for something a little softer.
Once we arrived at Splitters Creek and were joined by all Damien & Meyah’s family and friends the party was kicked off by Singer and Entertainer to the stars Paris Zachariou of Paris & Co, who I can honestly say was one of the best performers I have seen and the great thing was that he knew the families well so there were plenty of in-jokes 😉
Styling and catering were all taken care of by the two families and their friends, which just made the whole event so close and full of love and fun. I can’t wait to come back to the Albury Wodonga region for plenty more Weddings and Elopements because it is just a stunning area part of the world to be in!!
