I met with Kim and Si over a year ago in a little cafe in Bateau Bay, on the NSW Central Coast, with Kim’s parents sitting at another table a few feet away. I instantly loved them as a couple, they were so full of life, relaxed and just wanting to have fun with their wedding.
At this meeting they let me into a little secret, one which nobody else knew, including the family sitting so close by; I would not be photographing the actual wedding. The couple were planning to elope to New Zealand to get married on top of a mountain in Queenstown in the snow! They weren’t going to tell anybody, but in actual fact I would be photographing the celebrations and reception three months after they officially tied the knot, back in Australia.
Now I’ve got to say that this endeared me to these guys even more. Were they nuts? Their parents were only a few feet away, they could’ve blown their plan right there and then, but thankfully we kept it all quiet.
So fast forward a year or so, and here we are on a beautiful morning in Terrigal, meeting up with family and friends for coffee and banana bread. Si is from the UK, and his family had traveled over for the celebrations. This was a really nice way to ensure that nobody missed out. Everyone had been dealt the same cards in receiving a skype call from New Zealand and now they would all get to party together.
Kim and Si planned out a fantastic relaxed day, starting off with casual photos and breakfast in the morning, followed by surfing at Avoca, and then official photos further up the coast at Toowoon Bay beach. All before heading back to Bateau Bay for the reception party at home.
