I remember when I first arrived in Australia about 9 years ago, I took a photo of a bride with her little flower girls standing in the Rotunda at Sydney Observatory. This image still resides on my computer. It struck me as an incredible place for a wedding, with that classic postcard backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge behind.
At the end of last year I found myself standing in that same spot again, except this time I’d been invited to the wedding as the official photographer, and what a cracking wedding it was!
Nicole and Chris clearly have good taste, and Nicole’s love of fashion shone through in the outfits she had picked for the day.
Starting at the 5 star Intercontinental in the exclusive suburb of Double Bay, I was blown away by the Presidential Suite in which I found Nicole getting ready. The suite was huge, with an amazing view over Sydney Harbour, and on the rooftop a bar and swimming pool with an even better view!
The couple showed their effortless cool when the wedding cars showed up too. A classic black VW Beetle for the groom and a gorgeous aqua blue vintage VW Combi for the bride. The corks popped off the bottles of Veuve and you knew it was going to be a good day.
The day of the wedding was one of those hot hot summer days with little to no shade. It means as a Photographer you are constantly looking for trees or roofs to put people under. This is course is a bit of a challenge with outdoor weddings. However, having the shade of the rotunda really benefited us on Observatory Hill.
After making our way back across town to Rose Bay for the Reception, we got a demonstration of why Chris has had a long career in radio. The music kept flowing from one decade to another, a bit of everything was in there. But it worked. It was a great party, before the couple departed back their Presidential Suite in the classic red Charger.
This has got to be one of the most down-to-earth fun weddings I have been to, whilst at the same time doing it all with an air of elegance. Pulling those two things together is no easy feat, so hats off to Nicole and Chris!
To watch the images with music, this is the couple’s video slideshow we made
