When Alex and Katya called me to ask if I would be the Photographer for their wedding in the Blue Mountains I jumped at the chance. All too often it is easy to get pigeon-holed in this industry and a lot of our work tends to be on the coast. The chance to get up into the mountains was really exciting!
The day started and ended at Loxley on Bellbird Hill, near Kurrajong. This is a beautiful venue, and one that you could comfortably spend the whole wedding day at, as there are fantastic views out over the Western Sydney Plains from it’s lofty position. It also served as an excellent reception and accommodation spot though for Alex and Katya bigger vision.
From here we travelled to the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens for the actual ceremony. The couple had planned to use one of the gardens as the backdrop for their outdoor wedding, but unfortunately on the day, the weather God’s decided things would go a little bit different. As it looked for sure like it would rain, the ceremony was brought inside. However, whilst the room was a little on the ‘cosy’ side, the view that it afforded us was incredible. The centre’s presentation room has an enormous picture window, which looks out across the mountains. It was quite beautiful!
After the ceremony, we were able to jump in the park’s oversized buggy and were escorted around the grounds by the Park Ranger to take pictures. The whole thing ran great and she was super accommodating. So much so, that by the time we got back the park had closed and we had to wait to be let out again 🙂
The room at Loxley was excellent for the reception and afterwards, Katya did a swift change into a Marilyn Monroe-esque dress to wow everybody with their Bridal Waltz out on the dancefloor balcony. This was probably my favourite part of the day as I watched on from up high, with the lights of the city twinkling in the distance and the gorgeous new couple twirling elegantly in front of me.
Congratulations guys. What a beautiful day from start to finish!
